Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Excellent Mexican Food. The woman who answered the phone had to hand the phone to someone who spoke better English. This is a good sign when it comes to ethnic food joints. Usually means the food is authentic and traditional. The red enchiladas were delicious. Served with potatoes, jalapenos, lettuce, cheese and onions. I ordered chicken. They give you quite a few, maybe a half dozen or so, but they are rolled thin. Very soft and great flavor. Can't say I've eaten enchiladas quite like these before. Solid red and green salsas. The red salsa isn't watery, but rather like a very light bbq sauce in consistency. Nice taste and was different than most I've tried. Shredded beef burrito was also very good, It was large, but loosely rolled.

Holy crap! This place is legit! I used to live in San Diego, CA and just a short hop to Tijuana, Mexico. The food here at El Pueblo isn't this Americanized crap you get at from majority of places here in Orlando, but the real thing! I always get the steak tacos, beef or chicken burrito, or mixed fajitas. Don't let the strip mall feel dissuade you though from coming in. The ladies that works here are extremely sweet.....reminds me of my friend's Tia's in San Diego. Prices are extremely reasonable too!!! I would get a meal for 3 people, and would only spend less than 20 bucks!!! Not kidding!!! Try it for your own self!!!!

Holy mother of all hole in the walls! I really didn't prepare myself for how small El Pueblo was going to be when I first walked in there. I remember walking to the front to order and making eye contact with the chefs in the back. I really felt like I was looking into a Spanish aunt's kitchen and peeking in to say, "Feed me!" I had to order enough food for some hungry people back home so I got 15 tacos: 5 al pastor, 5 carnitas, and 5 pork something. Sorry, the last 1 wasn't memorable so I didn't bother to remember what type it was. I made my order and waited 10 minutes or so. There were tvs playing a soccer game so everyone dining at the time was certainly engrossed. I brought the tacos home and had everyone try 1 of each kind. As I was opening the containers, I noticed that they wrapped each taco in parchment paper so that they wouldn't stick together. So thoughtful! Anyway, each box came with 2 types of hot sauces. I definitely need to ask for extra sauce next time since they were so good! Out of the 3 type of tacos I ordered, the al pastor was hands down the most flavorful one. The tacos here use a corn tortilla that's larger in size in comparison to other taco places I have been to. I'm mentioning this because each taco comes with 2 corn tortillas, which fills you up pretty quickly. Not the best taco place in Orlando, but it WILL hit the spot. Also, don't expect chips and salsa here. Go down the street to Tijuana Flats for that.

Best Mexican I've had in Orlando so far. Very good service and the employees are very friendly and willing to help you decide what to order. Average sized menu, but plenty of options to customize it to your liking. Best authentic Mexican food around!

Finally, we have found a good mexican restaurant in Orlando that isn't americanized, bastardized, or needlessly upscalized. This place is legit, good, and reasonably priced. We went on Cinco de Mayo and were the only gringos in this place. Good sign, right? Food: We had three things between us. 1) a Grande quesadilla with jalepenos. Grande signfica grande, ok!!! 2) I ordered the red enchiladas (I think it was #1) with chicken, which is served with beans and rice. First off, you get six of them for about $9. Did you hear me, SIX. They were delicious, stuffed with chicken, and served with a healthy portion of jalapenos on the side. Happy so happy! 3) Husband ordered a shrimp dish, but what came out was another shrimp dish that was basically garlic grilled shrimp. It was an ample amount for about $9, served with beans and rice, and warm tortillas! Who cares if it was the wrong thing, because once it hit our lips it was bow chicka bow bow! Ambiance: Strip center, small, and with only six lovely pink and teal booths. Don't be turned off, wait until a table comes clear. Oh, plus they had a pretty good juke box banging it out. Price: See above. They hit the price/goodness/quantity ratio trifecta. I can't wait to get back and try some more.

Absolutely wonderful food. Great prices and extremely large potions!! Authentic authentic Mexican

Since moving to Orlando 8 months ago, we've been searching for Mexican food. Not Tijuana Flats or Chipotle, real Mexican. We may have our winner!! Our first experience was delicious! We ordered take out as the place is VERY small and a bit duvet. The flavors were wonderful, and the perfect spice - just enough to make your nose run, but not too hot. My son and I had the fajita mix, my husband had the red enchiladas and our daughter had the tacos. There were no leftovers - we devoured it all! We will absolutely be coming back for second time. Only 4 stars because there was no chips and salsa or guac, and it would be nice to eat in versus take out.
(4)Johanna G.
The food is delicious! Very affordable. Place is clean. Service is great! It is a good place to get lunch or just yo have a snack/small dinner. Food is healthy and they have so many dishes with so little calories. Very mexican flavour... just delicious!!!! My favorite..... Shrimp tostadas!
(5)Will S.
Authentic Mexican food. Spanish menu with English subtitles. Great service and I always feel welcome and my business is appreciated. Go here for tasty Mexican food and you will not be disappointed.
(5)Jenneline D.
Love this small restaurant, great food authentic Homemade drinks, must try their Orchata a milky creamy drink with cinnamon. Friendly servers
(5)Jose A.
Great food. Very tasty so authentic, it's a small place but the food was so good people waited outside for seating. I will definitely go back
(5)Jessica G.
Not good at all. Not sure why my experience seems so different from all the rest, but I know what I know, and it was gross. The place was dirty, and very sketchy. My enchiladas were dry with little to no chicken. This makes me more weary about using yelp as a guide to new places for me to try.

I miss Tortilleria la Mexicana on Goldenrod.. I know, what a way to start a review for another establishment right? Before they changed management and the place fell under, it was the best Mexican food in the area in my mind, and since then I've been trying to find it's equivalent in taste, quality, and price. I came into El Pueblo with those same expectations and was very excited about the possibilities. I loved my agua de pina, they do a very good job with that. My tostadas were good; nothing really exciting, just good. Perhaps I need to come back a couple of times and try something else. I saw someone order up beef stew and that looked REALLY good, as did some flautas that looked to be dipped in enchilada sauce. Service was meh, but then again they were really busy. I will go back and try something else for sure and perhaps do a more positive update.
(3)Nancy F.
The Mexican food is authentic, fresh and very reasonable- think fast food $. The highest price on their varied menu was $12.00 for a large shrimp cocktail! We were the only Gringos in the spotless restaurant at 9:30 pm and the server was friendly and attentive. The place lacks charm and ambiance, but makes up for it in taste and price. It's in a small strip mall for heaven sakes. Since it was late, I opted for two tostadas, chicken and beef, with all the fixins. Fresh, crisp and flavorful. Hubby had the Sopa de Mariscos which was "superb"- his word. The tasty broth was teeming with squid and shrimp and served with a side of onions and cilantro . I am anxious to go back and try the enchiladas which looked very tasty, and as the owner noted, one of the most popular items on the menu I say "Muchas Gracias" for a delicious meal!
(5)Laura T.
This place screams authentic! The food is so good and so cheap yet the quality is so high. Locals of that area are mostly Mexican and I see them in there ALL the time. Also, don't worry if you don't speak Spanish, their English is really good. The place itself is tiny with 8 booth so not ideal for an enormous crowd (reason for the 4 stars) but other than that, it's real Mexican deliciousness! The burrito is huge and so much flavor for only 5 bucks. Tacos are amazing ranging from $1.50-$2.00. They come traditional with cilantro and onions. They can be a little dry since authentic excludes sour cream but add their green sauce and it's perfect. Careful with their red sauce, it's no joke! Mixed fajitas with chicken, steak and shrimp are awesome for only $10. I am obsessed with this place and crave it a little too much :)
(4)John B.
This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. They have only a few tables but if you have to wait it is worth it. We eat Mexican food from the East Coast to the West and from the Southern Border to the Northern. This restaurant serves food like a Mexican mother makes for her family. The tacos are straight out perfect. The choose of the homemade red and green sauces won't disappoint. The soups are a whole meal. Lots of time and labor goes into making these. Yes, the place is a bit rough around the edges but, suck it up and enjoy a real Mexican dinner.

I have been dining at this fine establishment regularly for the past several years. When you think to yourself "I want Mexican food", do you imagine the likes of Habaneros or Amigos? If so, stop reading this immediately and bow your head in shame. This is not for your kind, Janet. This place is balls-to-the-fucking-wall legit Mexican food that doesn't have time to fuck with people like you. I've had nearly everything on the menu and let me confirm, everything served here is scrum-diddly-umptious. The tacos, chilaquiles (of both the verde and rojo persuasions), pollo milanesa, tortas, and so on, are all great. Much of the menu can be ordered with your choice of meat, including chicharrones. Let me just make sure you understand, if you're the kind of sick fuck who would decide that what essentially amounts to a pork rind sandwich is what is missing from your life, El Pueblo welcomes you with open arms. My personal favorite is the burrito. It comes with a generous serving of the meat of your choice, avocado slices, and other stuff, including a large amount of cheese. I'm not sure if they actually eat burritos with a lot of cheese in them south of the Rio Grande or if they simply decide "hey, this fat gringo probably loves cheese!" whenever I walk in, but I'm not complaining. I usually call ahead for pick up and get two burritos, one for now and one for later. Though if you're anything like me you will begin eating that second burrito minutes after completing the first, like the disgusting animal that we both know you are. Sometimes you may feel frustrated with El Pueblo. It can be hard to get a table sometimes because dudes just hang out and drink beers for hours on end. Most people who work there don't speak that much English, so a little knowledge of Spanish is necessary. Also, it can sometimes inexplicably take like twenty minutes to get your check after the waitresses picks up your plates. El Pueblo is not wrong for any of these perceived faults. It is in fact you who is wrong for expecting El Pueblo to conform to your ephemeral and ultimately inconsequential notions of what should and should not be.

I am very happy with this chance occurrence/encounter. Ended up here since our favorite place closed. It's legit Mexican food though, so if you're after a saucy mess of food with Colby jack cheese mix... Like ill admit i was, there's plenty of other places to go. This was a shy step from home made. There's only 6 tables. Tiny tables. Waitress is super nice and fast food service from the kitchen. Best thing is that you can HEAR them cooking. It's legit. I had the enchiladas, would recommend! Definitely different from your average fare. Muy rica y auténtica esta comida! Estoy súper satisfecha con la cualidad y el servicio.

Don't be snobby this place isn't the Ritz... It's a fine place to eat, if you don't feel like being part of an alcoholic drama theater company. Otherwise, enjoy your food to go...at home, where the food may be cold but your precious environment won't be unstable. Why is it so difficult finding authentic Mexican food in Florida!? ...I don't know why, but the struggle is real. Menudo is a Mexican staple and so is pozole, and being from California and also being half Mexican let me tell you that El Pueblo must have my great grandparents working in the kitchen because it is a rarity to find such amazing menudo and pozole here. This is a weekend-only soup. No they do not sell it any other day but Saturday and Sunday. Why? Because it's hangover food and it goes fast, so if you want it, you better call and keep calling to reserve your soup cause every Latino waking up "crudo" will be there with bells on. The tortillas, while they aren't the most legitimate, lard-filled, handmade tortillas I have had...they're still pretty good. A 3.5 out of 5 in my book. The tacos de lengua (that's cow tongue, folks) are so life changing. Try it, then judge it. Of course you have the usual suspects, carne asada, chicken, al pastor...all are good and come with your assumed authentic toppings of onion, cilantro, add a good squirt of lime and dash of salt. The salsas there are made in house and stored in ketchup bottle, diner containers...If you can't take heat then pass on these. Tortas, tortas, tortas. These are deliciously large ways of saying sandwiches in Spanish. It's a very specific square type of bread, a lot of mayo (because Mexicans might as well have thought Jesus converted water into Mayo, it's a big staple in our lives) and your choice of chicken or carne asada. The torta is then filled with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, sliced avocado, roasted pickled jalapeños and ....love. Despite their size, be prepared to want another torta because after it is gone from its warm foil wrapper you will want to cry. These are a football game day favorite in my house. I order like 6 for 2 people (don't judge me I'm not fat, I just eat a lot) and enjoy them with beer. You'll never be so excited to see your team lose with a trusty torta on your side. Horchata is an "agua" or drink made of rice water which may not sound appetizing, but is always so refreshing especially when accompanied with spicy food. The large is a doozie and redefines large standards by means Northern states would want to tax. Needless to say, come here to eat, get large portions, bang for your buck and please try to get out of your comfort zone, don't expect "nachos" or tex mex. Take those needs elsewhere, if you want genuine Mexican food, this plaza in the middle of nowhere next to Race track won't disappoint.

Pozole super delicious! It's so hard finding a good mexican place in Florida. Thanks to yelp we found this gem! Its small but cozy. The staff is super nice and friendly. The horchata fresh and tasty but I came here for the pozole, didn't dissapoint! I even order some to go. Thank you Yelp!
(5)Ben N.
Seriously authentic Mexican food. Sometimes it's hard to get a table, but it's worth the wait. Nice to have a real Mexican restaurant in this part of central Florida.
(5)Michael S.
Amazing prices, friendly people excellent food. Authentic Mexican, I will make this a regular stop.
(5)Gloria M.
By far my favorite taco place in the are. As good as grandma's tacos. So tasty, tender and authentic! The carnitas tacos are my favorite.
(5)Steven H.
Hands down the best tacos I've had. They're seasoned and cool very well. Very authentic.
(5)Nikhil A.
This changed my perspective about Mexican food. Really delicious food, neatly decorated antojititos and great side sauce. Don't forget to try aqua frescos!!
(4)Ricardo M.
wow this is a authentic Mexican restaurant, all food is prepared with the real Mexican taste, I order gorditas de chicharron for appetizer it were delicious, and enchiladas rojas mmmm just like Mexico. i highly recommend this restaurant if you want to try the real taste of Mexican food
(4)Brooke H.
I don't get why this has so many awesome reviews on Yelp. It was alright but I don't plan to go back. I had the enchiladas and they were ok - the chicken was a little dry but the sauce was great. I ordered chips and salsa and that was an interesting experience - the chips were dark brown, very thick, very fried and oily. I have never seen a chip like that before. The salsa is actually hot sauce that is served in one of those red plastic ketchup bottles, so it's not a traditional salsa that you dip a chip into. It's hot sauce that you pour on the chip. As much as I love a good hole-in-the-wall, this one let me down.
(2)Katie P.
Delicious. I'm Filipino, and the food from this tiny restaurant makes me want to be Mexican. Shhh....
(5)Luis R.
Although the food is great! The lack of cleanliness and sanitation is appaling. The waitress doesn't clean the booths. The floor was disgusting and it was impossible to find a napkin that wasn't already dirty. When I was leaving, I was able to experience drugs being sold in front of the restaurant. In closing, although I would love to return to eat the tacos. I would need to have a concealed weapons license.
(1)Elle L.
I have yet to find a decent place for Mexican food in Orlando, so I was surprised and actually pretty delighted to find this little place. There's nothing special about the location or the inside, but the food is really good! I had the carnitas burrito sans rice. Their green and red hot sauces are really good. The red one had my mouth on fire! If you're looking for a locally-owned hole-in-the-wall place for a tasty burrito, this is definitely your place!
(4)Sandy P.
This place has the best quesadillas and horchata I have ever had. Just make sure you bring cash.
(5)James D.
If you've ever known people that go through life with blinders on, that's how I currently feel. El Pueblo exists in a little strip mall that I've essentially ignored for years. How long has it been there? You could tell me 200 years and I would believe you. When I went in it was slightly amusing. There were 8 or so booths and all but one of them had 1 person sitting. 7 men, all speaking Spanish, all apparently knowing the others based on their friendliness. Why was each one sitting at their own table even though they were all talking to each other? I have no idea, but I decided I better take a seat to blend in. I should note that the aroma of the tortillas was so intoxicating that I'm not sure if I was there for even close to the 10 minutes I was told it would take for me food to cook. I ordered a beef taco, a beef gordita, and a chicken quesadilla to go. Un-freakin-believable. Wrapped up with a few lime slices and some truly hot hot sauce, I was floored with how good everything was. I've always enjoyed corn tortillas more than the flour variety, and these did nothing but solidify that preference. I just barely finished all of the food, but every single bite was awesome. Each item I ordered was somewhere between $1.50-$2.50, a steal when looking at the quality and quantity. I can't wait to try some more items from their menu, including some of the larger dinner plates. El Pueblo, I'll be seeing you again real soon!
(4)Edward G.
Ive now been to El Pueblo twice. It is better than average Mexican food. The tortillas and salsa is fresh, unfortunately the quality of the steak and pork is a bit suspect. I'd would go back there for the chicken Quesadillas alone. They are top notch. I've had tacos and enchiladas as well. The enchiladas were a bit too greasy. The tacos would be fantastic if it weren't for the gristle. The pork wasn't marinated either, and tasted bland. Overall, El Pueblo is the best Mexican I've found to date in Florida. I've only been in the state 9 months and will continue my quest. I've had zero luck finding great Mexican in the state of Florida. I welcome any suggestions. **Okay I went back again (3rd time). I had chicken mole' enchiladas. Amazing! Some of the best mole' I've ever had. Nice and spicy! Not overly sweet. I just upped my rating to 4 stars.
(4)Nathan K.
I was not aware that they only have booths. Drove all the way here to find that out. I need a table, so be aware. Never got to try the food. Would have love to have tried their food.
(2)Justin M.
Like the other reviewer has said, this place is GREAT. I work very close to this place and went for lunch one day with a coworker. The prices were slightly high, but not much. The food was great and the service was fast too. I had a 2 tacos and a tostada. They were both real and authentic. I've been searching for a place like this for a while. The food came out on simple paper plates, and I loved it. The tacos were served with the meat of my choice, onion and cilantro. No lettuce or cheese, just real taco. Te tostada was more like "normal" for America, and it was good too. My friend had some sampler plate that he said was very good. Sodas are by the can, as they do not have a fountain. The staff doesn't not speak much English at all, so I put my Spanish to the test and did OK. They also do not take credit cards, so beware. After I go some more I can give a more thorough review. Indications are I will be back, that's for sure!
(4)Dan B.
The food here is homemade. When I dine here late at night I feel like I'm visiting family who will prepare me a delicious and filling meal. It really tastes authentic and wonderful. They know what they're doing. This area is peppered with little taquerias and Mexican groceries. I think I've been to all of them. This one has the juiciest tacos out of all of them. Not only that, but their sopes are outstanding, the tortas are huge and delicious, and the gorditas are real Mexican gorditas in that tasty little crispy shell. The al pastor is probably the juicest I've had outside of Mexico. They also have amazing sauces (especially their homemade salsa verde that they put in a squeeze bottle) and Mexican juices that I haven't had in a long time (I love the Jarritos Mandarin soda). Don't worry about Modelos or Coronas, because their cooler is lined with them. They also have chilaquiles and a bunch of entrees I haven't tried yet. The sopes were stacked. I got it with chicken and it came piled high with cheese, cream sauce, avocados, refried beans, and lettuce. The restaurant itself is a hole in the wall. Don't expect much of a cushy atmosphere. I personally love those types of places. I grew up going to this places in Miami all the time. I love the simple settings and the delicious family created food while listening to Mexican music and watching futbol on the tv. The staff is very friendly but I'm not sure if they speak English or not because I communicated with them in Spanish. UPDATE 9/9/09: I tried the Mole Poblano here and it is outstanding. It tastes like real, home-cooked mole and the sauce is the perfect balance of slightly sweet and spicy. They gave such a generous portion of chicken that it even filled ME up. Everything I've tried here has been outstanding. The beans are the only thing that I would consider average, but everything else tastes like home-cooked Mexican food.
(5)John L.
Short and sweet menu. The traditionalist done right. NOT a Cuban or Colombian place serving Mexican food. This is Mexican food and its done right. Thanks to fellow yelpers for convincing me to try. Other reviews were spot on
(5)Steve P.
A small hole in the wall restaurant with authentic Mexican food. If you are looking for Tijuana Flats or Chipotle style Mexican food, you are in the wrong place. This food is straight from south of the border. The food is reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. I had the enchiladas with carne asada in red sauce, and it is honestly one of the better things that I have eaten in all of Orlando. My wife had carnita tacos and they too were above average. She also ate nearly half my plate of enchiladas as they were so unbelievably tasty. I cannot recommend this place enough. Both the red and green salsas that accompany the food are extremely spicy and flavorful.
(5)Rosie M.
I've never been there but my brother and dad have. They said the best mexican food ever and i love mexican as much as they do and from what they explained to me sounded great definitly gonna go there soon!
(3)Nicholas B.
El Pueblo hits the mark for Mexican cuisine in Winterpark. Although the space is extremely small and the tables comfortably seat two, the food is amazing! I ordered three Tacos, Barbacoa, Marinated Pork, and Chicken. The Marinated Pork was by far the best, the chicken was a close second, and the Barbacoa was a little dry, but I accompanied them all with their Salsa's which are also both amazing! I also skated off with a small price of $4.50. (I tipped the waitress $5) What really makes this Dive Special is the authentic cuisine. Their tacos don't come in a hard shell, they wrap your taco in two warm soft tortillas making it so convenient and easy to eat, and delicious! Although I would never bring my girlfriend here on a date, I would come here with any guy friend, or call ahead and order to go. For me it is a 10-15 minute drive, but well worth it. Beats Taco Bell by a Gazillion! My comments to El Pueblo: Expand! You have great food! Look for a bigger space in a more crowded market! If your quality is maintained, it will bring in the extra revenue that you'll pay in utilities and rent. Market your restaurant better especially to college kids who are looking to save a few Bucks. Look at what the Wall Street Cantina did with "Taco Tuesday". Never change, keep the food this way and you'll never lose business! Cheers, Nick
(4)Hillary V.
Very authentic and tasty. I'm a wimp with spicy food, but it seemed like all the food was spicy as hell without any real warning for it. But that may go back to the authenticity.
(3)Mark E.
I currently live in El Paso, TX, and this place still has the best Carnitas Tacos, as well as the most flavorful Mole I've ever had. I love supporting a small business like this that is putting out quality food, and I hope more people discover this hidden gem.
(5)Ian G.
Some of the best mexican food in Orlando. Authentic tacos of all types, gorditas and amazing burritos. DO NOT EXPECT TIJUANA FLAT. This is authentic and they dont make it good by drowning it in cheese. Fresh ingredients, great tortillas and tasty hot sauces. Also they probably have the best Michelada I have had. If you have never had one, like beers and like bloody marys : do it.
(5)Jessica D.
I had lunch with Ian G. here today and echo all of his comments...the food is absolutely delicious and authentic. I can't wait to come back for more tacos...and at the price I think I will be able to come back a LOT OF TIMES. :) I want to ditto what he said about not expecting Tijuana Flats...if you want food like that, go to Tijuana Flats. I love Tijuana Flats too, but it's apples and oranges. Or...Tex Mex and authentic Mexican food.
(5)No Longer Yelping B.
Short and sweet, this place has some good Mexican food at fair prices. It's a bit small, but overall, it was a good meal. I could do without the giant juke box, but I think it's a rule for a good Mex place to have one ;) Overall, I'll be back.
(3)Brian W.
The BEST Mexican food in town. And that means Mexican, not Tex-Mex.
(5)
